NEXT UPCOMING WORKSHOP AT PIETER STUDIOS NOVEMBER 4TH
A Physical Theatre Activation Lab with Gema Galiana + Emily Meister
We take very serously the way have fun!
What is it to inhabit? How do we tap into creating from a place of pure impulse? Are you in need of a concentrated space to experiment, connect and create?
This physical theatre based workshop is inspired by the art of discovery and experimentation through physical action. Open to all curious movers, actors, and performing arts practitioners; we seek those who have a desire to move, try, investigate, devise and delight. This laboratory environment is a safe space to explore, enjoy, and challenge one another and ourselves - in being present and in process towards physical artistic expression. Participants will be guided through movement exercises, structured improvisation and creative tasks. We will delve into methods of inventive expansion through physical techniques, visual/sensory examination and object/word/sound play. Within each session we will explore simple to complex textural frameworks. We will push our physical limitations and feel the sensations of heightened states of being. We will attempt to abandon preconceived thoughts and habitual patterns to uncover our instinctual impulses through mental and physical action into creation. In turn, initiating new structures to build on ones solo movement practice, partnering and group work.
We are inhabitants in self and in space and we hope you will join us!
Please wear comfortable clothing for moving and sweating, bring a journal for notating thoughts, and please be sure to bring plenty of water. Thank you!

Our workshops will introduce performers to a disciplined and rigorous approach to the performer’s expression through physical action, listening and presence. Participants will develop tools towards broadening the body’s ability to perceive their performer’s needs, and communicate such without unintentional filters, giving the performer utmost choice in how a need is physically communicated on stage – this is not pantomime, nor tautology. Participants will also develop a self-criticism to always push for greater and more specific physical articulation, and by always exploring, one’s presence will be focused on specific tasks. General strength, flexibility, articulation, awareness and dexterity will be tantamount to the conceptual learning.
